Conference on Environment and sustainable development

ATREE stand for Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the
Environment. IN 2016 Atree complited 20 years of work in the areas of
conservation and sustainable development.
ATREE working in all india with a PhD progtammes. This conference was held on 24th
and 25th jaunary,2017 in JN Tata Auditorium hall in Bangluru.
This
conference divided into 2 different
days. At 1st day the inauguration ceremony wished by Kamal Bawa, ATREE President. After that the different sessions started
further. In session one Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services and society subjects
are covered by different experts in related fields. In that session also panel discussion
was done on the topic of ‘Anthropocence: What are the Prospects for Biocentric
and Anthropocentric conversion policy and Practice? ’. At the end of the
session the presentation on different topics presented by ATREE PhD Scholars.
After break session 2 was started. This session was based on Climate change
Mitigation and Development.
At 2nd
day session 3 was organised on the topics of Forest Governance and Livelihoods.
Different keynotes speakers are presented their research on related topics.
After that young PhD scholar students are presented their research on
difference species of north Himilalaya. Panel
discussion was covered on related topics. In session 4 Water, Land and Society
topics are covered by experts. Young scholar presents their research on water
problem and utilisation of solar energy. After breakfast TN khoshoo Memorial
Awards Function ceremony is done by ATREE. This award won by Mr. K.J. joy. He
has been an activist-researcher for more than 20 years and has a special
interest in people's institutions for natural resource management both at the
grassroots and policy levels. His other areas of interests include drought and
drought proofing, participatory irrigation management, river basin management
and multi-stakeholder processes, watershed based development, water conflicts
and people’s movements. After this award ceremony Mr. Joy was presented their
research and thanks on relating topics. At the end Vote of thanks is gave by
Director of ATREE.
Learnings :
1) We learn from this conference how to work
at global level through our NGO.
2) The importance of administration and
Management at grassroots level for different projects on environment and
conservation.
3) Importance of ‘MICRO PLANNING’ is
understood for all projects and activities.
4) Importance of How to interpret primary data
and further action plans for development of nature and society also.
